Mimzyy’s Favourite Summer Trends

Summer is the perfect season to experiment with fashion. This year, it seems the trends are even more exciting and diverse than ever. From whimsical, romantic bloomers to the timeless allure of leopard print, and the chic simplicity of glazed nails, this season's styles offer something for everyone. Whether you're a fan of nostalgic nods to the past or looking to try out the latest viral beauty trend, these standout summer trends are sure to elevate your wardrobe. Join me as I delve into my favourite summer trends! 

Bloomers:

Do we have Bridgerton to thank for this regency-era-esque trend? I think so.  

Bloomers are an exaggeration on the micro-mini skirts, skorts and shorts that have been gaining popularity over the last few summers. They’re feminine, flirty and fun, which is an ongoing theme we’re seeing this year. From hair bows and pointed kitten heels, to drop-waist dresses and bell-bottom sleeves, traditionally feminine silhouettes are here to stay. However, I have been loving seeing how people are styling these uber-girly bloomers in creative ways to balance them out. With oversized football shirts - a nod to the recent Euros - and metallic cowboy boots. With a cropped waistcoat and chunky, Adidas Original trainers. Or, my personal favourite, with a pair of multi-coloured tights underneath, adding an edgy element to the look. Bloomers, while they may have originated from Daphne Bridgerton’s wardrobe, are a staple in summer 2024 fashion. 

Leopard:

Every few years, we see an animal print resurgence. In 2020, cow print was everyone’s obsession, and we saw people take on lockdown projects to paint their walls, dye their clothes and accessorise with all things cow print. A couple of years before that, was the late 2010s zebra-print epidemic. However, there is one animal print that keeps popping up time and time again. Whether is was Carmela Soprano in the 00s, Scary Spice in the 90s, or Alexa Chung in the 2010s, leopard print has been a fashion-favourite forever. So, it is no surprise that it is having its time in the sun in the 2020s. We are seeing it in shoes, particularly impossible-to-get-your-hands-on the Adidas Wales Bonners, in accessories, such as tights and claw-clips, and in handbags, thanks to high-end designers like Dolce and Gabbanna releasing new leopard lines. In my opinion, leopard is a neutral and can be styled however you like. It will never go out of fashion, but right now, it is certainly at its height. 

Glazed Nails:

Unless you live under a rock, chances are you’re probably just as obsessed with Hailey Bieber as I am. 

She epitomises trendsetting and embodies the ultimate it-girl. We're all eagerly watching her every move, ready to replicate her latest styles—and that includes her nails. One standout trend she's recently popularised is the 'glazed donut' nails. 

These sweetly named nails are a playful twist on the classic nude, featuring a silvery chrome finish that creates a beautiful sheen. They are ideal for the summer, as they sparkle in the sun and enhance sun-kissed, tanned skin. Many have embraced this shiny nail trend, giving rise to variations like 'blueberry milk' nails with blue chrome and 'aura nails' with a gradient of multiple chromes. Thanks to Hailey's forward-thinking viral videos, chrome nails are here to stay. 

To make this look your own, I recommend staying true to the pearlescent, glowy theme by adding mother-of-pearl nail gems on the accent nails. This adds texture and visual appeal, perfect for all those Aperol Spritz-holding photos you'll be taking this summer!
