It’s Time To Ditch The Sambas
I hate to say it, but I am over the Adidas Samba trend. Yes, they’re comfortable. Yes, they come in countless colourways. And, yes, they are pretty affordable for an ultra-fashionable trainer, but they’ve been overdone.
The shape of them is nothing special and some of the designs are pretty unwearable. There are so many amazing alternatives.
That being said, colourful shoes are still in. Especially for the summer months. Nike has released several versions of their timeless Cortez shoes in a variety of bright shades. These classic kicks are known for their distinct sloping shape and were originally made for running, so are super comfortable - what’s not to love?
However, if you’re looking for something even more unique, why not try Onitsuka Tigers? They’re slim and sleek - perfect for hot, summer days. Cult classic film, Kill Bill, popularised these in the early noughties, but they’re slowly making a well-deserved comeback. You can even get the premium, Nippon-made range, which showcase the best Japanese craftsmanship. They will last you this summer, next summer, and countless more to come! Personally, I adore the silver ones.
If you think ‘on trend trainers’, your first thought may not always be Pumas. For myself, they have always reminded me of my school shoes! However, the narrative is shifting, thanks to the release of the funky Puma Palermos. These are perfect if you love the clashing colourways of Sambas, but don’t want to see your shoes on the feet of everyone else around you. Moreover, they are slightly chunkier, giving them an edgier feel.
Having said all this, if you’re an Adidas addict, you may still feel loyal to Sambas. But, trust me, there are so many wonderful alternatives. The Campus 00s offer a high platform and thick laces reminiscent of the 90s. The Gazelle Bold allows you to keep your vibrant colours with a more unique shape and sole. Finally, the Handball Spezial has it all. They are essentially a Samba, without actually being a Samba, allowing you to feel more individual without having to change your style!
To conclude, while Adidas Sambas have had their moment in the spotlight, it's time to explore new footwear options. With a plethora of stylish and unique alternatives like Nike Cortez, Onitsuka Tigers, Puma Palermos, and other Adidas models, you can step up your shoe game without sacrificing comfort or individuality.
